Count Me In!

Be a team player! As simple as it sounds, this is one of life’s big lessons. Learning to work with other people toward a common goal draws you into the camaraderie of community and allows you to be a part of something greater than yourself. Reap the benefits of connecting with others in the group process called teamwork!

SUMMARY

*A team is a group of like-minded people who strive for a common goal.  Teamwork is required in many areas of life — in the family, in the workplace, in civic organizations, and in the church.

*It is important that you learn to be a good team player.  You need to be able to get along with others and work together.  All team members are vital and important to the group.

1 Corinthians 12:14-22 (NIRV)  — So the body is not made up of one part.  It has many parts.  Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand.  So I don’t belong to the body.”  By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.  And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye.  So I don’t belong to the body.”  By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.  If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear?  If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell?  God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be.  If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body?  As it is, there are many parts.  But there is only one body.  The eye can’t say to the hand, “I don’t need you!”  The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”  In fact, it is just the opposite…

*Three ways to learn to be a team member:

     1)  Watch what everyone else is doing.  Watch and listen.  Don’t talk too much.

     2)  Do what everyone else is doing.  Don’t be the lone flyer.  Go with the flow of the group.

     3)  Get along with others.  It’s not all about you.  Get your eyes off yourself.  Allow someone else to take the spotlight sometimes.  There is not letter “i” in the word “team.”  It’s about working together.

*Being a part of a good, wholesome team can help you grow emotionally and spiritually.  It can stretch you in areas where you have no experience.

*You need to be a part of something greater than yourself.  You do not need to be isolated and alone.  You have gifts, talents and skills that can be used for the greater good, not hoarded all to yourself.  This is a great way to give.

*Being part of a team is an antidote to loneliness, depression and anxiety.  The church is a great team!  If you’re not already a member of a local church (a real one, not an internet site), be encouraged to find one that you like and join.

*Remember that God loves you!  You first on His mind today!
